This shield was made by a well-known Paiwan wood carver, Fu-lung Lai, from Jiaxing Village. It features rhombuses and half rhombuses as well as two symmetrical rows of human head patterns. This shield is very bright in color due to the application of red lacquer. Today, shields have lost their defensive function and have instead become decorative objects. The other carving is by Ho-shun Lai who studied under his father Fu-lung Lai.
