Mountain-dwelling indigenous peoples had difficulty obtaining salt. If a man had to go out to work for several days, he would place some salt in a container to take with him. Salt containers were usually made from bamboo , came in large and small sizes depends on the length of each bamboo joints. A rope was threaded through holes, made at the top of the container and connected at the bottom for preventing salt from spilling out and for ease of carrying.
